I saw you ask around for tutorials, and you were right, you use a layer mask to put text (or other things) behind your subject. Here are some layer mask tutorials:
And, ROFLMAO, I'm glad you like the coloring in #8 because I fought like the devil (no pun intended) to get the colors balanced--even going so far as selecting the ceiling and changing it alone several times after changing other properties of the entire image--but to no real avail. All I was really able to do was bring DB's skintone and coat color out a little more than they had been. Let me tell you something: dark black skin is not easy to bring out nicely from a dark photo!!! So, to make a short story long, I very much appreciate the feedback! I actually was embarrassed by that one until I saw your comment! :-O
